Every time someone upsets me, I wish something; I wish that I could create my own ideal world filled with my choice of people - now I know I sound like a dictator gone crazy here but it is totally unintentional. Basically, I wonder what our world would be like without any negative individuals. Naturally this concept is not achievable and would have many negative consequences but sometimes, in my dreamland, I wish it could just be so.
But then I think to myself, why not make it possible?...
in our own way?
Are we forced to surround ourselves with people who negatively impact our lives and make us unhappy? Obviously during some periods in life the choice isn't ours... such as a school or a work environment in which we are not able to choose. But in almost every other aspect of our lives we, OURSELVES can choose and I believe that we do not need to subject ourselves to unwanted and damaging hurt.
For example, I personally have decided that from this point onwards I will focus my attention on certain people in my life and solely be civil and polite to the rest. The people with whom I will surround myself are the ones that have, over the years, cared about me and have my best intentions at heart... those who respect me and whom I respect, whose morals and opinions I value, whose conversation interests me... all in all, the ones who make me happy and for whom I do the same.
This being said, I do however strongly believe that even the opinions and ideologies of individuals we do not 'like' matter and add to what type of people we become, enable us to grow and think differently and be aware of how the minds of humans vary from person to person... BUT I have come to the much-needed realisation that allowing harmful people in, no matter how interesting and intelligent they may be, does no good whatsoever. So instead of creating a new world, I will simply adjust mine.
